What's Six Three Whiskey?
A quarterly online and print journal of fiction, poetry, essays, and art published in a rusty hangar by a small group of rouges and conspirators. We publish the miscellany of storytellers far and wide.
In summer 2014 we'll roll into our first strafing run on the hardened bunkers of conventional narrative and form with the launch of our small press and our first book publications.
And skywriting. Oh, there's gonna be skywriting ....
what are we looking for?
We hold to a simple truth: Story matters. We look for work that's challenging without sacrificing plot, character or action. Stories that blur the line between genre and literature (a line we intend to carpet-bomb, in any event).
We're less interested in the ironic or the experimental. If it fits the New Yorker, chances are it's not right for Six Three Whiskey. Our writers, poets and artists tend to hang out in saloons, not literary salons. Hell, odds are a couple of 'em live in saloons.
Limited Edition copies of Volume I, Issue 1 of Six Three Whiskey are SOLD OUT. We're offering a limited-time bonus on pre-orders for our main run - click here!
July 3, 2014 - Happy (almost) Fourth of July! Things have been a bit quiet on the website because we've been back tinkering in the hangar. We're about to make some exciting announcements about upcoming events, Issue 2, and more!
So get out there and enjoy BBQ, beer, and America, and keep an eye on sixthreewhiskey.net!
June 18, 2014 - Our friend Corad Romo is doing it again! Be sure to catch the latest TONGUE AND GROOVE reading in Hollywood this SUNDAY, JUNE 22nd, from 6:00-7:30pm. TONGUE AND GROOVE always is a great show, with an eclectic mix of fiction, spoken word, poetry, and music. Well worth your six bucks!

June 7, 2014 - A long update! We've gotten inquiries about Issue I pre-orders and Issue 2 publication date. We've got answers! In registering our ISBN we decided to start Six Three Whiskey's main print run as a 2014 publication. It makes us a quarterly out the gate without a "hanger," one issue published in 2013 (Those of you who purchased Special Editions of Volume I, Issue 1 at our 2013 event now have extra special collectors' items - especially if you got it autographed by any of our amazing writers!)
The main run of Issue I (250 pre-orders and counting!!!) will ship in the next couple of weeks.
What of Issue 2? It will go to press a 2-3 weeks after Issue 1 ships. We'll have pre-order opporunities, special offers, and event announcements soon! Stay tuned, and thanks again for your support - we couldn't do this without our readers!
March 25, 2014 - Our good friends over at the Hot Dish Reading Series will be helping produce an LA Times Festival of Books offsite event, NERDY, DIRTY, AND WORDY with friends The Rumpus and The Nervous Breakdown. Featuring Gina Frangello, Dana Johnson, Jerry Stahl, Ted Travelstead, xTx, and DJ Mira Gonzalez. Thursday, April 10th at the Bootleg Theater. This one's not to be missed.
beautiful devices: Stories, poems, art
Usually we commit the Beautiful Devices space to short films of an artistic bent (often involving airplanes).
Right now we're featuring some of the the extraordinary artwork you'll find in Issue 1! L.A. artists Fernando Barragan and Jorge Bernal provided the artwork for our homepage.
They're part of a new generation of Chicano and Mexican artists in the City of Angels. There is an extraordinary concentration of artists in East Los Angeles and neighborhoods like Boyle Heights, Lincoln Heights, Highland Park, and Eagle Rock (to name a few).
For an even bigger glimpse of one of L.A.'s cultural and artistic treasures, check out our buddy Able Salas' publication, Brooklyn and Boyle.
Six Three Whiskey is excited (and very lucky) to be working with these artists!
